Tile Roofing

Tile roofs make a bold statement! They have great aesthetic appeal plus they can add property value. Another added bonus is that tile roofs are incredibly durable. However, on the downside, tile roofing is often more expensive that other roofing materials.

While tiles are more durable than many other types of roofing materials, they can be knocked off more easily in high winds or during bad weather. Tiles do not perform well in warm, sunny regions although they do quite well in colder climates. Another thing to consider is that tiles add weight to the roof, so not all roofs can handle that extra weight.

Shingle Roofing

Shingle roofs provide a classic, contemporary look to homes. There are actually quite a variety of different types of shingles so you can get an even more customized look for your house.

Shingles are more affordable than tile roofs, however they don’t last as long. Depending on the type of material used, shingles can last from 20 to 30 years. They are very weather- and impact-resistant. In addition, asphalt shingles do a wonderful job of blocking noise.

Flat Roofing

Flat roofs are often the roof of choice for commercial buildings. They may also be used in residential applications when that space will be used things like rooftop patios.

One of the biggest advantages of flat roofs is their affordability. They typically require less labor and materials, which means they can be an economical choice in some instances. However, flat roofs have a shorter lifespan, only lasting 10 to 15 years. In addition, drainage, or the lack thereof, can present a problem for flat roofs. If a flat roof does not have adequate drainage, this can lead to water collecting on the roof and affecting the integrity of the roofing material.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing is incredibly durable, with a lifespan of 40 to 70 years. It’s also lightweight and resistant to things like mildew, rot, and insects. These benefits do mean that metal roofing is one of the more expensive choices out there.

Some additional benefits of metal roofing include resistance to high winds and shorter installation times. This type of roofing reflects sunlight, which can help you save money on air conditioning during the summers. The way the metal panels interlock mean that they are impervious to both rain on snow. Some drawbacks of metal roofing is that there is additional noise during weather events like rain or hailstorms. Metal roofing can be dented in the event of a severe hailstorm. And while metal roofing will last a long time, if its painted, that paint can chip or fade over time.
